Ready to deepen your knowledge of trees and serve as a leader in Knoxville’s urban forest? Our Fall Volunteer Forester Program provides hands-on training led by local experts and certified arborists, combining classroom learning with practical, outdoor experience.

Classes meet on Wednesday evenings in September (September 9, 16, 23, & 30) from 5:30–8:00 PM and include both indoor and outdoor instruction.

Week 1: Tree Anatomy & Physiology on September 9, 5:30-8:00 PM, location TBD

Week 2: Tree Identification on September 16, 5:30-8:00 PM, location TBD

Week 3: Tree Problems & Diagnoses on September 23, 5:30-8:00 PM, location TBD

Week 4: Tree Selection & Planting on September 30, 5:30-8:00 PM, location TBD

Participants gain practical skills in tree identification, care, and community engagement—preparing them to take on leadership roles at tree planting and care events and to serve as trusted urban forestry stewards.

To earn the Volunteer Forester Certificate, participants will:

• Complete at least 80% of all classes
• Volunteer and lead at Trees Knoxville events. There is no minimum number of events you are required to attend, only that you complete 10 hours of experience outside the Volunteer Forester classes.
