Tree Walk and Tree Care 101 Workshop

Tree Walk and Tree Care 101 Workshop

Trees Knoxville is hosting a Young Tree Care Workshop designed to help community members learn the fundamentals of caring for newly planted trees. Participants will gain hands-on experience in proper staking, mulching, watering, and pruning techniques for young 3- and 5-gallon trees. This is a great introductory tree care class, and everyone is invited.

The workshop will be led by Kiera Johns, Urban Forestry Specialist with the City of Knoxville Urban Forestry Division. Kiera works closely with Knoxville’s urban canopy through community forestry initiatives, tree care education, and public planting efforts focused on creating healthier and more resilient urban landscapes. Her work emphasizes long-term tree health, public engagement, and increasing access to environmental education across Knoxville communities.

Participants will explore the trees at Urban Wilderness Gateway Park while learning practical, hands-on tree care skills in an outdoor setting.

Please dress appropriately for outdoor weather conditions and walking. Wear comfortable clothing suitable for hands-on activities. Participants are also welcome to bring a light snack or water bottle if needed.

All necessary tools and information will be provided.
