Volunteer With Us
Get Involved
Whether you have a few hours or want to take on a leadership role, volunteering with Trees Knoxville is a hands-on way to support a healthier, greener community. From planting and caring for trees to sharing resources and knowledge, our volunteers help grow Knoxville’s urban forest and strengthen connections across neighborhoods.
Get Your Hands Dirty — Take the Next Step
Volunteer Opportunities
Our training program spans four weekly sessions. Topics cover tree biology, planting best practices, care and maintenance, and urban forest planning. Upon completion, volunteers may lead groups at planting events.
Tree Planting & Tree Care
Join us at volunteer tree planting and tree care events throughout the year to help restore the canopy where it’s needed most. We do our tree work at schools, churches, parks, greenways, neighborhood streetscapes, and bus stops! No experience is required—our staff and trained volunteers provide guidance, tools, and support, making it easy and rewarding to get involved.
Outreach & Community Events
Volunteers can also support outreach efforts by helping at community events, festivals, and educational activities. These opportunities are great for those who enjoy talking with neighbors, sharing resources, and helping others learn about the benefits of trees and urban forestry.
Become a Volunteer Leader
For those looking to deepen their involvement, Trees Knoxville offers structured pathways for leadership and long-term engagement:
- Volunteer Forester Program: Receive training in urban forestry and serve as a leader at tree planting and care events while acting as a knowledgeable resource in the community.
- Tree Ambassador Program: These liaisons serve as leaders in our Volunteer Canopy Program. Work at the neighborhood level to connect residents with trees, resources, and urban forestry knowledge, helping to expand the urban canopy block by block.
Group Volunteer Opportunities
Trees Knoxville welcomes volunteers from a wide range of backgrounds and groups:
- Students: Gain hands-on experience, service hours, and real-world exposure to environmental stewardship and urban forestry.
- Corporate & Employee Groups: Team-based volunteer events offer meaningful community impact while supporting employee engagement and sustainability goals.
- Neighborhood & Community Groups: Partner with us to bring trees, education, and resources directly to your neighborhood and help build a long-term canopy where you live.
