SUMMARY:Invasive Removal at Good Citizens Cemetery
DESCRIPTION:Trees Knoxville is partnering with Good Citizens Cemetery to support the restoration and conservation of a historic Black cemetery in East Knoxville that is currently undergoing a long-term restoration effort. We invite you to take part in a meaningful community workday that centers care\, intention\, and learning. \nParticipants will help with invasive species removal\, brush clearing\, and basic tree care while learning about the ecological stewardship of the land and the cultural and historical significance of this important site. We are honored to welcome Mr. George Kemp\, who will offer an introduction to the cemetery\, its history\, and its vital role in the past and present community of East Knoxville. \nTrees Knoxville is grateful for the opportunity to support this work and the community members connected to this place. We look forward to a shared workday focused on care\, respect\, and what it means to steward land together. \nWhat to wear and bring: \n\nPlease wear closed-toe shoes\, long pants\, and long sleeves\, as the area is overgrown and protective clothing is important.\n\nBring plenty of water\, as this will be a physical workday\, and staying hydrated is essential\, even in cooler weather. \n\n\nThe workday will take place rain or shine\, so please dress appropriately for the conditions. \n\n\nPlease Carpool if possible because parking is limited!

DESCRIPTION:Trees Knoxville is partnering with Keep Knoxville Beautiful for the eighth annual North Knoxville Community Cleanup and Tree Planting\, which will be held on Saturday\, February 28\, 2026\, from 9 am-12 pm. The event base will be at Northgate Plaza\, located at 4212 N Broadway\, Knoxville\, TN 37917. This year\, we have a special partnership with Trees Knoxville to plant trees at Whittle Springs Middle School. Trees Knoxville and Keep Knoxville Beautiful are partnering to plant trees in communities and schools across Knoxville. Together\, we are growing the urban canopy\, helping keep schools cooler\, and increasing biodiversity in neighborhoods throughout the city. This partnership supports healthier learning environments\, stronger communities\, and a more resilient Knoxville for generations to come. Participants of any age are welcome! We look forward to seeing those who live\, work\, or play in North Knoxville – as well as anyone who wants to lend a helping hand. Thank you for keeping Knoxville beautiful! \nThere are four volunteer options: three to sign up as an individual (land\, creek\, tree planting) and one to sign up as a group. Please only fill out the section that applies to you. \n\n\nGroups: Groups will be assigned an area of North Knoxville that they will clean up.
